Court restrains UNP from suspending councilor |

The UNP has been ordered against suspending the party membership of provincial councilor Sudath Chandrasekara. Colombo district court judge Laffar Thahir today (Mar. 04) issued the order to UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and general secretary after hearing a petition filed by Mr. Chandrasekara.
The judge also prohibited the party from conducting a disciplinary inquiry against the petitioner. The orders will be in effect until March 18.
Mr. Chandrasekara has filed the petition, claiming the party was going to suspend him after he had supported Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa and criticized Gen. Sarath Fonseka at the recent presidential polls.(CT)
