Sri Lanka faces no tsunami threat following a massive earthquake in Chile, said the Disaster Management Centre.
Tsunami warnings have been issued for Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Central America and Pacific island nations.
The 8.8 magnitude tremor, the biggest in Chile in 50 years, hit central Chile and killed at least 78 people, BBC reported.
Chilean president Michelle Bachelet has declared a "state of catastrophe" in affected areas and appealed for calm.
People are moving to higher ground on Easter Island amid fears of a tsunami.
The quake struck at 0634 GMT about 115km northeast of the city of Concepcion and 325km southwest of the capital, Santiago.
Santiago airport has been closed and all flights cancelled until further notice, airline officials say. Flights are being diverted to Mendoza in Argentina.(CT)
