UNP to start door to door campaign Print E-mail

The United National Party (UNP) will start a house to house campaign from Ratnapura today (February 27) to educate the masses regarding the present situation in the country, reasons for this situation and the solutions.

A spokesman for the UNP said yesterday, that the masses should be educated on the political crisis in the country, including the detention of general (Rtd.) Sarath Fonseka, and allegations made against him, the financial crisis with the ever rising cost of living, and the solutions that the UNP possess to solve these major issues.

"As the largest single political party in the opposition, the UNP, has to take the initiative to educate the people and inform them of the correct situation" said the UNP spokesman from Sri Kotha, the party headquarter’s.

This campaign will end on March 15 at district level. Leader of the UNP, Ranil Wickremessinghe, who is also Leader of the Opposition, will kick start this campaign at Ratnapura today at 10 a.m. and Hambantota at 3 p.m. He will be in Galle tomorrow (Sunday) at 10 a.m. and Matara at 3 p.m.

The UNP spokesman also said that this sort of campaign will also help all candidates from the United National Front (UNF), which consists mainly, the UNP, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), SLFP (M) and Democratic People’s Front (DPF), in their attempts to win the April 8 Parliamentary elections.(Island)
